Choose Your Friends Wisely

He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.

Proverbs 13:20, NKJV

It’s crucial to choose your friends wisely. Who you surround with will eventually affect your perspective in life. The people around you can influence you to either follow Christ or the standards of this world. You may not instantly notice this, but whether you like it or not, your friends will affect the way you make decisions in life.

So try to ask yourself, who do you surround yourself with at the moment? Are you walking with wise people? Are you learning better perspectives from them? Did they influence you to grow and become the best version of yourself?

If not, then let this verse remind you to do what’s right. Be in a safe and loving environment. Your walk with God will be more challenging if you are not surrounded by people who will support and guide you along the way. You can’t do it on your own. Pray that God will lead you to a community where you will feel love and acceptance. Ask, and He will give it to you.

Choosing the right people may be hard to do because you already built a relationship with your existing friends. But if you think that you still need someone who will help you become better, then it’s time for you to expose yourself to a different environment. Nothing will change if you just stay where you are.

If, by chance, you already noticed a warning sign from your current friends, then you need to make a bold decision to let go. Don’t allow their negative behaviors and perspectives to consume your thoughts, or else you will become like them.

Be with wise people, and you will always see yourself flourishing.

Prayer: Father God, thank you so much for this beautiful reminder. I pray that you will give me the courage to stay away from people who negatively influenced my life. Give me the faith to believe that you will lead me to the right environment. Help me, Lord, that I may choose to surround myself with those who truly love and obey you. So that one day, I will also learn to follow your ways just like they did. This I ask and pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.
