Choosing to Forgive someone doesn’t mean you no Longer feel the Pain

Forgiveness is part of the healing process. And you need to go through it first before you experience complete restoration. Maybe you think that it is so hard to forgive because the wounds are still fresh. But you will never get over it, not until you decide to let go and set yourself free from bitterness. You may think that time alone will make things better, but pain will still be there because it takes a decision for you to be healed. Choose to forgive despite what you feel. Yes, it’s not an easy thing to do. It’s scary and heartbreaking. But God will be there to give you the strength that you need. Forgive not just for those people who hurt you, but do it for yourself.

Just acknowledge what you feel. Allow yourself to go through the process. You will not instantly receive the healing that you need. You still need to accept that pain is real, and you need God’s power. When you learn to embrace yourself in the most devastating season of your life, you will then see His hands moving. He will show you His miracles, and He will give you peace that’s greater than the negative emotions you have inside. Just be patient because the process is not easy. Sometimes, you will feel so confused and disappointed, but all you need to do is receive God’s love and grace. Only then will you learn to share His goodness, especially to those people who hurt you.

Remember that forgiveness is a choice. God gave you the freedom to do it. Don’t wait for others to do something before you forgive them. It’s not about their actions and the words that they say. Maybe you wanted those people who caused you pain to apologize for what they did. You can’t forgive them because they never ask for it. But your life never depends on their actions. You can make your own choices. You can always set yourself free from anger and bitterness.

Do not decide based on what you feel. Look unto God and choose to do the right thing in His eyes. Yes, you are still hurting, but forgiveness is a constant choice that you need to make. You need to release it every time you remember the pain. Until that day comes when you will experience complete healing. Choose to forgive every single moment, and you will receive God’s peace.
