His Word

Don’t Allow The Disappointments Or Fear To Reign

Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.

Acts 14:19-20, NIV

Paul went through pain and persecution to preach the gospel. The Jews who came from Antioch and Iconium chased, stoned, and dragged him outside the city. Since they were thinking that he was dead, then it’s possible that the stoning Paul experienced was not an ordinary one. Perhaps his body was in pain, and his life was in danger.

But then, in the succeeding verse, Paul got up and went back into the city. After that, he and Barnabas left for Derbe. There, they continued to preach the gospel and proclaimed the good news. The pain that Paul experienced was not easy. But then, he didn’t allow the circumstances that he experienced to hinder him from doing God’s commands.

He didn’t even rest for how many days and chose to dwell on the negative things that he experienced. It was written that on the following day, Paul decided to continue what he had started. He didn’t allow the disappointments or fear to reign. Instead, he chose to move forward and focus on the task that God entrusted him.

This is a powerful reminder for us. In life, we will experience obstacles and pain. But all we need to do is focus on God and His will. We are called to obey Him and not to please others. Let’s not allow the discouragements and fear to reign. Instead, let’s remember that God is there to give us the strength we need.

Prayer: Father God, thank you so much for giving us everything that we need. Thank you for your unending love and unfailing grace. Thank you for reminding us not to be easily disappointed. Please give us the courage to serve you, Lord, especially in times of difficulties. Lead us closer to your heart, especially when we can’t find the strength to give up. Renew our minds, Lord, so we may learn to focus on your will. Be glorified, always and forever, Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
