Self Development

Don’t let other people’s standards dictate your direction

Having someone happy can also make you feel the same. It feels great when you finally get validation and acceptance from the people you seek. However, although it feels great, it could also be a reason that you will forget yourself along the way. It’s part of our nature to feel loved and valued. However, because we are too hungry for it, we carelessly welcome every opportunity without deeply thinking about how it could affect us.

Seeking validation is fine, but looking for it in the wrong places and people is not. You need to understand how to decipher good advice from expectations. Good advice will always give you room for improvement and a chance to learn from mistakes. However, expectations are different. You and their expectations are like parallel lines. You may be on the same level, but they will never meet.

Stop chasing people’s expectations. It is very heartbreaking to think that sometimes, those you love are the ones who expect so much from you. But choose to put yourself first, and you can do it unselfishly. You can still show your love by putting yourself first. Find your own peace and find it in Him who orchestrated everything. God knows the longing of your heart. But you will not know how it will work unless you know how to lead yourself. The process will not always feel comfortable, but believe in His promises. You will then be a person with peace, and you can do more of your purpose.

Expectations are endless. Sometimes you will think you are a loser just because you were unable to perform what you thought you were supposed to. But don’t forget that we all go through seasons of losing. We all lost in some battles in life. Winning is not the only way to be happy in this life. It is more about acceptance and making the most of what you have to gain. There is no key ingredient to a well-lived life. Because only God can make us experience one. That is why rest yourself in Him. Let Him teach you the ways you are to take. Hold on to His promises and never let go of His words. If painful words start to attack you, know that you can always surrender them to Him.

Journey with God. Experience and witness His love. Because once you depend on Him, you will see yourself and your life through a different lens. You will live with more peace and you will find yourself laughing at things that used to be a massive deal to you. Living with God will help you be wiser in life. It will help you become stronger in the face of circumstances and softer in love.
