Forgiveness is not about Neglecting your Pain
Just because you choose to forgive doesn’t mean you already forget about the pain. Forgiveness is not a feeling. It’s a choice. You can’t simply dictate your heart to stop bleeding. You need to go through the process and allow God to heal you. And while you go through the healing journey, God will ask you first to forgive. He will challenge you to let things go and allow Him to take over. He will encourage you to give up what you want to happen and allow His will to prevail. It won’t be easy, but God will be there to comfort and encourage you, especially when the pain feels so real. He will give you the grace that you need so that you can forgive others.
Maybe you find it hard to forgive because the pain is still there. But your heart won’t be totally healed if you won’t forgive. It’s a crucial part of the process. You need to start with an important decision. You need to make an intentional move that will help you see God’s perspective. If you just listen to your own voice, you will be blinded but the truths that God wants you to follow. You need to humble yourself and allow His grace to take over. Sometimes, it means letting go of your own biases and pride so that His wisdom will reign. It takes a surrendered heart. You need to choose God over your feelings and treat His instructions as your guiding light. When you do that, you will then be able to gain the courage to forgive others despite the pain that you feel.
The pain will remind you of the lessons that you learned in the most difficult season of your life. It will serve as a light to those people who will also experience the same thing in the future. It will teach you how to relate to and comfort others. So patiently go through the process. Acknowledge it even if it is so hard to face. Cry out and surrender in His arms. Do not neglect what you feel because it’s going to be part of a wonderful story that God is writing. Things will work out according to God’s plans and will. Trust Him and keep on doing what pleases His name. Forgive even if it hurts.
When you forgive, you are like giving yourself a beautiful gift. You are setting yourself free from the expectation that things will stay the same. It’s you accepting what happened. It’s not about neglecting what you feel. Instead, it’s about facing the pain and allowing God to take over. Forgiveness is a powerful thing. It will lead you to complete transformation. When you choose to let go of the things that you want to control, it’s like you are also giving God the chance to perform miracles in your life.
