Fulfilling God’s Purpose
This verse was part of what Paul preached to the people in Pisidian Antioch. He highlighted how Jesus fulfilled the promise of God to His people, and that He was raised to life. Then, he mentioned about David who was buried and whose body decayed, after he had served God’s purpose in His own generation. There are two things that we can learn from this part of the scripture.
First, God planted a purpose in David’s heart. He didn’t just create him for nothing. David’s life was not an accident. God has a purpose in his life. And just like David, God also created us, his children, with a purpose. We are called to finish the mission that God asked us to do. We are here on earth not just for the sake of surviving, but we are alive because He wanted us to fulfill our purpose.
Second, Paul mentioned that David had served God’s purpose in his own generation. He wasn’t just talking about God’s desires in his life or doing what God wanted for his family. Instead, he talked about generation. God is looking at the bigger picture. He knew that David’s life wouldn’t only affect a small number of people, but He was seeing a generation.
I wonder what kind of purpose God planted in our hearts that would impact not just our loved ones but also our own generation. May we also live according to the purpose that He gave us. And just like David, may we have the humility to persevere for His purpose to prevail. Let’s not just focus on what we can see, but let’s open our eyes to the generation that God wanted us to bless and serve.
Prayer: Loving Father, thank you so much for giving us the chance to know you. Thank you for the purpose that you planted in our hearts. We pray for hearts that are willing to preserve and endure just for your purpose to prevail. Please give us the grace to know your will, and to obey your word. Thank you so much Lord for choosing us to fulfill a mission for our generation. This, we ask and pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.
