Guard your heart

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 2:23, NIV

You need to consider the things that are going on inside your heart because one way or another, your actions will flow from it. Guarding your heart doesn’t mean that you should not love the difficult people in your life. In fact, God encouraged us to love our enemies. Protecting your heart simply means that you need to immerse it in God’s presence so that He can always secure it with His love.

For you to do it, you need to be equipped with His words. Read the Bible every day so that you will always be reminded about His promises. The word of God will guide and teach you about the best thing to do. If you think that you’ve already gone too far, you can always come back to His word and remind yourself about His great love. He will guide you to the right person according to His perfect timing. God will speak to you through the Bible, so always keep His word in your heart.

Do not just remind yourself about His word, but you also need to abide in it. If you wanted to protect yourself from pain, then just obey the things that God has been telling you. The Bible already provided a lot of instructions for us to follow. There are essential things that we need to do to experience the fullness of this life. Just allow God to direct you to the right path. Your obedience to God will surely bless you with greater things in life. Remember that He just wants the best for you. So learn to obey and be patient along the way.

The other thing that you can do is to surround yourself with people who will influence you to follow God’s ways. They can be your spiritual community or your friends and family. Stay with those people who will never stop telling you about God’s truth. They will remind you about your true identity, and they will also give you a lot of life-changing advice. Stick around with them because they are blessings from God. He purposely allowed them to meet you so that you will not forget Him.

Above all, focus on your relationship with God because He will be the one who will protect your heart. The more you welcome His love in your life, the more you will feel secured and protected. God himself will be your ultimate lover, and He will never break your heart.
