How to Stay with God Even When Life Feels Hard
There’s no fixed way to do this, but here are some things we can do to remind ourselves that God is there even when life feels hard.
1. Don’t stop talking to Him when life feels hard.
This may be a very difficult thing to do, especially if you are the kind of person who shuts down whenever you face challenges. But you can express everything to Him. We sometimes think that when we talk to God, we need to have a faith that is strong and on fire. But what if you just feel weak, scared, and hopeless?
You don’t have to appear strong in the presence of God. You can be vulnerable and tell Him everything, the pain, the fear, the worries, and all your questions. God can handle them.
You don’t have to filter your words. Just express what’s in your heart and mind. God understands you.
When you choose to talk to Him even while you are struggling, it means you are still acknowledging His presence in your life.
2. Don’t stop listening to Him when life feels hard.
You may find it hard to listen to His voice because your anxious thoughts are trying to take over. But open the Bible and listen to Him.
It’s like choosing to eat even when you are not in the mood. Just as your body needs nutrients from food, your soul also needs nourishment from the Word of God.
It may seem like you can’t understand anything from the Bible, and it’s hard to absorb what He is saying, especially when life feels hard. But believe that something inside you is changing. It may not be evident in the physical realm, but in the spiritual realm, your soul is slowly receiving strength.
3. Never forget the Holy Spirit.
When life feels hard, we tend to think that God is nowhere. We feel abandoned, like God has rejected us. But the truth is, the Holy Spirit is with you.
This means you have a companion. You are not alone. The Holy Spirit is there to guide you and give you the wisdom you need. You are not abandoned and are held by God.
No one may understand what you are going through right now, but just like any relationship, it takes two to make it work. God is already doing His part. It may seem like He is not there, but He is moving. He never leaves your side.
And now, in this difficult moment, God is asking you if you are also willing to take your part.
