It Is Through The Grace Of Our Lord Jesus That We Are Saved
Peter said these words when the Jewish Christians, Paul and Barnabas had an argument with regards to the circumcision of the Gentiles. The Jewish Christians wanted the Gentiles to be circumcised and follow the law that was written by Moses. But Paul had a different belief. So, Peter reminded them that just like them, they are all saved because of God’s grace.
Sometimes, when we are so caught up with the things that we do, we became entitled of our accomplishments. We then associate our identity according to the works that we exerted, to the point that we no longer acknowledge God’s grace and mercy. This perspective will then become a burden not just to ourselves but also to other people.
There’s a possibility that we will unknowingly impose our own standards to others, and this is what the Jewish Christians did to the Gentiles. They rely on what they do, and not on what God can do. And this is an important reminder for all of us. Peter simply emphasized the truth that we are all saved by the grace of God.
We shouldn’t rely on our own works because we never really know what’s ahead. Instead, we need to trust God’s grace and allow His goodness to reign in our hearts. That’s when we will learn how to love Him and His people even more. His grace will keep us humble and grounded.
Prayer: Father God, thank you so much for reminding me about your grace. Please continue to open my heart so that I may not be tempted to rely on my own effort and strength. Lead me closer to your heart, and please teach how to trust you even more. We honor your name, Lord. Be glorified and be magnified in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
