Luke 19 :1-4, NIV
Zacchaeus was viewed as a terrible sinner during his time. His work as a chief tax collector is almost equivalent to a corrupt politician in our days. People despised his ways, and he was treated as an outcast because of that. Despite his wealth and influence, Zacchaeus still longed for something that would satisfy his heart. Maybe he realized that his wealth was not enough for him to feel accepted and loved. Beneath the curiosity that he felt for Jesus is a longing that He wants to satisfy. Like a child waiting and excited for his deepest desire to be fulfilled, Zacchaeus eagerly sought the presence of Jesus despite the crowd and his physical height. He was a chief tax collector, but it seems like he suddenly forgot all his wealth and dignity the moment He longed to see our Savior. Forgetting the riches and honor he had, Zacchaeus climbed up to the sycamore tree just to hear and see Jesus. Like a child, he shamelessly reached out to His redeemer without any hesitation or fear. This kind of childlike faith is what we need to ponder.
Are you willing to run to Jesus and forget everything else just to be with Him?
