Rest is a Necessity

You need rest. Your body, mind, and soul need to be restored. If you don’t stop and take a pause, you will reap painful consequences in the end. This is the reason why rest is a necessity. God created it to be part of our lives. He proved it as very essential even in the very beginning. In the book of Genesis, you will read that God rested from all the work He had done on the seventh day. This is a powerful reminder for us to also do the same thing.

Rest is not just about taking a break from work, but it’s deeper than that. For our bodies, we need both physical and mental rest. It means that we should get some sleep so that we will have enough energy to face our daily battles. We also need to pause and allow our minds to rest. Sometimes, we need to go to a place where we are reminded of the things that matter most in the end. When our thoughts are bombarded with worries and fears, we tend to forget God and the blessings He gave us. One way to do it is to simply read the word of God and let Him remind us about His promises.

When we rest, we are simply telling ourselves that we can’t do everything on our own. We need to acknowledge God as our source and provider. We must remember that He is good and faithful to us. It means that even if we are taking a break, God’s hands will never stop working. He will continue to perform miracles behind the scenes. In short, when we rest, it also means that we trust God more than our own strength.

So, if you feel bombarded right now by the demands and pressures in your life, remember that God gave you a beautiful gift called rest. You can only open it the moment you stop relying on yourself and start trusting Him. He is just waiting for you to seek His presence.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11: 28-30, NIV
