Rest is an Important Ingredient in making a Wise Decision
It’s not good to make decisions when you experience extreme emotions. Too much sadness or pain will only lead you to focus on poor choices simply because you will try to avoid any factors that will break your heart in the end. You will unknowingly neglect the important matters because you focus too much on the deep wounds within. On the other hand, too much excitement and joy will also lead you to make choices that will put you at risk. Simply because you won’t be able to identify the consequences of your actions. When you are so happy, and your eyes are all set on the things you want to happen, you won’t see the little yet important things you need to consider. This is why rest is important in making a wise decision.
Take some time to pause. Let your feelings subside first. Process your emotions so they won’t be a dominating factor in making the next steps. Take a break. Sometimes, it means that you need to go to a place where you can be alone or take some time to distance yourself from the situation. It may not be easy, especially when you need to make urgent decisions, but ask God to give you the grace to enter His place of rest. You badly need it. When your heart is at rest, you can see the bigger picture and appreciate even the challenges you experienced. When you are calm, you can easily hear God’s instructions. He will give you the wisdom that you need. He will teach you the important matters that you need to consider.
Reflect on your decisions. Think twice and try to ask the right questions to the right people. Consider the factors that you missed, and don’t be in a hurry. The situation may force you to be a quick decision-maker, but choose to pray and allow God to guide you. Don’t just settle in one solution. There’s a tendency that your limited understanding can possibly put you in a box. You won’t be able to see other’s perspectives because you are so consumed by your problems. This is why you need some guidance and a mentor. Ask for help, and the right people will teach you how to reflect on the next step that you need to take.
Let your resting time lead you back to the will of God. Let your quiet time be like an intimate moment with you and with the Creator of the universe. It’s when He will open your eyes to the resources around you. He will pour out creativity in your mind so that you can maximize His blessings. Your moment with Him will help you align with His heart. His purpose. Spend more time with God, and He will reveal to you what you need to make wise decisions.
