Sometimes, the Best way to Love Someone is to let them go
You can never control the people around you. There will be moments when you need to make painful decisions that will somehow make you realize what it truly means to love. There will be situations that will open your eyes to the reality that you are living in. Changes will be there, and it takes a brave heart to accept them. It’s not an easy thing to do. Letting go is painful, especially when you are too dependent on the person. It takes time and tears. But the good thing is, when you learn to allow someone to be free and grow, that’s when you will discover how wonderful love is. So, if you are having a hard time right now because you need to make an important decision about the person you deeply love. Then take this as your reminder: Love is not about attachment, but it’s more about trust and freedom.
Every person that you meet is just a loan. They are not permanent. God just lend them to you. One day, you will say goodbye to them. This is the reason why you need to stop controlling others because if you do, your heart will shatter in pieces the moment they leave. There may be a season when you need to guide and lead them, but when they slowly grow and figure things out, then that’s the time when you need to step back and just watch over them. Yes, you need to be intentional in dealing with them, but you also need to allow them to prosper. Sometimes, it means that you need to give them the opportunity to explore the world. You will feel uncomfortable at first. But just let them be who God wants them to be. Remember that you are not their god. You are just a steward.
Someday, God will take you to a different season. He will lead you to new people and environment. He will allow you to try new things. He will teach you how to move forward without the people you used to know. And when you learn to journey with Him, that’s when you will experience more of His love. That’s when you will grow in His arms. God is gracious. He is so kind that He wanted to teach you how to build your foundation on strong grounds. You can’t do it in the arms of humans. And the people you love can’t also treat you as their source of hope and trust because, just like them, you are also imperfect and broken. That’s why they need to stay closer to God and depend on Him.
Learn to let go and allow God to teach you what love is. Humbly accept His guidance and instructions. Letting go doesn’t mean forgetting the people you love; it means that you need to surrender them in God’s arms. You need to trust that God will be there to guide and protect them. You need to believe with all your heart that He loves them so much. You need to learn how to watch over them without controlling their actions or decisions. And when you allow God to take over, that’s when you will experience how great His love is for the people around you.
