His Word

They Pursued God’s Presence Above Anything Else

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

Acts 13:2, NIV

When Barnabas, Saul, and other leaders in Antioch gathered, they worshipped the Lord and fasted. While they were on their knees, and while their hearts were in a posture of worship and surrender before God’s presence, the Holy Spirit instructed them about what to do next. These leaders may have experienced many supernatural things with God, but they didn’t fully rely on what they already received.

Instead, they continued to seek God’s instructions and guidance. They still ministered before the Lord and waited for His Spirit to lead them. Now, the question is, when was the last time that we genuinely worshipped God and asked for His guidance? This is an important reminder for us to follow what the early disciples did. They pursued God’s presence above anything else. They chose to surrender their lives and allow God to direct them.

After this, the Holy Spirit gave an important instruction to them. He asked them to set apart Barnabas and Saul for the work He asked them to do. You see, just like Barnabas, and Saul, we also have a special calling in the Kingdom of God. He planted a purpose in our hearts that would lead us to bring glory to His Name. And somehow, the Holy Spirit will guide us to that calling the moment we learn to come before His presence.

We need His grace to lead us. We can’t do this on our own. That’s why, this is an important reminder for us to truly seek God in everything that we do. We need to learn how to minister and worship Him, so that we will always be guided and strengthened.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for calling us to follow your will. Thank you for giving us the chance to serve you and your people. As we grow in your presence, we pray that you will give us a heart that will always seek and glorify your Name. Teach us how to worship and honor you in everything that we do. This we ask, in Jesus’ Name, we pray, amen.
