We Believe In A God That Does Not Show Favoritism

Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.

Acts 10:34, NIV

Peter realized that God did not show favoritism the moment he met Cornelius. God used this centurion man to break Peter’s mindset. Before, he met Cornelius, he treated the Gentiles as unclean and unholy. But God taught him how to respect and accept others especially those believers who came from different nations. He realized that God accepts those who fear him and does what is right regardless of their ethnicity or different backgrounds.

Sometimes, we are like Peter, who had a mindset of exclusivity, treating ourselves as better than others. Because of this, we forget that they, too, were children of God. But in this verse, we are reminded that God looks at the heart more than anything else. He sees what’s inside rather than focusing on what’s outside.

We believe in a God that does not show favoritism. He accepts people from every nation as long as they fear Him and do what is right. This is not about our genealogy or our ethnicity, but this is about following God and doing His will. He doesn’t give special considerations to selected people because of where they came from, but He looks at our hearts.

That’s why, let’s not treat ourselves as better than anyone else. We are all equal in the eyes of God. We are loved and anyone who believes in Jesus are given the chance to be His child. May we never forget who we are in the eyes of God. And may we also treat other people as God’s beloved regardless of the differences we have.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for giving us the opportunity to love others. I pray that you will continue to teach us how to respect other people, especially those who have different cultures or backgrounds. Give us the grace to serve others without expecting anything in return. Please teach us how to love our neighbors just as how you loved us. This we ask, in Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.
