What is Faith?
Sometimes, it’s hard to describe the things that you can’t see. How can you even put words to what you want to happen but never really grasp its existence? Faith is not just a belief; it’s like trust, hope, love, surrender, grace, and courage combined in one word.
It’s deep, and sometimes, it doesn’t make sense. It’s so easy to utter it but somehow hard to exercise. There are even days when it’s painful to keep our faith. There are instances when it hurts to trust in God’s ways. But I guess this is what it means to truly believe in Him. It takes a heart that’s willing to surrender.
What is faith?
In Hebrews 11:1, faith is described as the confidence we have in what we hope for and the assurance of the things we don’t see.
It’s like the ‘Yes’ in the ocean of ‘No’s.’
It’s like the ‘Finally’ in the ocean of ‘Failures.’
Faith is like hope in the midst of pain and problems.
This is the reason why it’s hard to understand it because exercising it means that you will be in a constant fight against all the worries you have inside.
It’s a battle between the good and the bad voices in your head.
It’s like you are constantly stretching yourself to do better even when things don’t seem to work out.
Confidence
Now, the scriptures say that it takes confidence for us to have it. And whenever we are forced to be in a situation where we need to have faith, it means that we need the kind of courage that’s willing to believe that good things will still happen despite the pain. It means that we have this strength to hold on to the future that we hoped for, even when it’s hard to see it.
And we can gain that confidence in the arms of Jesus. It’s His love that will empower us to believe that there is still light even in the darkest season in our lives. It’s Him who will hold our hands and carry the heavy burdens of the past. It’s Jesus who will give us faith. He is the one who will sustain us in the end.
