His Word

What It Means To Be A Christian

and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.

Acts 11: 26, NIV

The followers of Jesus where once called as disciples, saints, believers, or followers of the way. In Antioch, they were first called as Christians. They were identified as “Jesus’ People.” Christians are those who spread the gospel and truly follow the teachings of Jesus. In the present, Christianity is the most widely practiced religion. But sadly, many of us didn’t really have an intimate relationship with Him.

Before, Christians were the people who truly lived for Jesus. But this time around, it’s no longer the same. That’s why this verse is a reminder for us Christians to live as ‘Jesus’ people.’ Let’s not take this word lightly. This isn’t just a religion, but this is our way of life. It supposedly reflects who our God is. This should’ve given people an idea about who Jesus truly is by the way they looked at our lives.

So, if you identify yourself as a Christian. Then, perhaps this is your reminder to live for Him. Let’s put Jesus at the center and treat Him as the King of our lives. Let’s have an intimate relationship with Him. And let’s seek Him above anything else. This world will tempt us to follow standards that are not aligned with His will. But as Christians, we are called to be the light of this world. We are called to shine for His glory.

You are a Christian for a reason. And if, by chance, you haven’t encountered the love of Jesus, then it’s not yet too late. You can still experience His presence in your life. Call upon His name and talk to Him. Seek His face and ask Him to reign in your life. Let Him be your ruler, and let Him save you from the bondages of sin.

Prayer: Father God, thank you so much for sending Jesus in our lives. Thank you for giving me the chance to receive your love. Please teach me how to follow your ways. Please burn the fire in our hearts, that I may be able to represent you to my neighbors. Give me the grace to obey and serve you while I’m still here on earth. This I ask, in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
