You can Only give What you Have

Generosity is one of the things that God has taught us. It is one way of sharing God’s goodness in our life. He blesses you untiringly because He saw you as a vessel of His love to others. What you have are not just meant for you. They are also meant to be shared. There will be times that He will use you in answering someone else’s prayers. He will use you to bless others as well. He found favor in you. That is why He is going to use you for the greater good. This also works the same way when it comes to loving people. You cannot love them if you do not love yourself.

Loving is complicated when you do not experience it yourself. It must start from within. You need  to accept everything that you are. You take your mistakes, learn from them and not do them again. You discipline yourself with the things that are not good for you and decide to do better things. You choose the right thing to do even if you feel like doing the opposite. Loving yourself means obeying what God wants you to do and lowering your pride just to be obedient. You have to forgive yourself, let go and let God heal you, and accept healing from Him.

It sounds cliché to say that you need to love yourself. But you have to do it. You need to embody that kind of love that comes from God. Remember, it will be hard for His plan to be fulfilled in your life if you do not know how to handle it. He will let you go through difficult times to prepare you for more extraordinary things than He is planning for you.

For example, when you pray to forgive someone, God will first ask you if you have forgiven yourself. By then, you will know what forgiveness looks like and what it really is. When you pray to have a generous heart, God will give you things that will challenge your decision to check if you can be trusted with small things. More extraordinary His blessings will then follow.

God knows the state of your heart, and He knows what you need first to give. Loving people is not easy. That is why He wants you to know how to love yourself first. He will make you trust yourself so that you can trust others. He will teach you how to care for yourself to care for others. He will let you understand yourself to also know how to understand others. Remember, it will always start within you. You cannot give what you do not have. You cannot manage God’s blessings if you don’t know how to handle them yourself.

That is why; you need to submit yourself to Him. Let God teach you things that you have to learn to be a vessel of His love. Let Him work within you first. Love, care, forgive and trust yourself instead. Steward God’s blessing and make it grow. Remember that you are a vessel. Receive His grace and you will be more effective.
