His Word

A Heart That’s Willing To Trust In God’s Word

When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier who was one of his attendants. He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa.

Acts 10:7-8, NIV

Cornelius unexpectedly received an unusual instruction from God. He called him by name and asked him to send some men to Joppa and bring back Peter. Now, this centurion doesn’t know Peter. But without any doubt, he followed the voice of God.

There are times when we are given instructions by the Lord and tend to doubt or hesitate to obey Him. Maybe this is because we don’t have faith like Cornelius, the kind of faith that’s willing to follow God even if He doesn’t explain everything.

After he received instructions, he didn’t ask a lot of questions. His response was sometimes the exact opposite of my reaction every time God would give me His word. I tend to doubt His voice and would ask so many details. Not thinking that God only asked me to obey and not really to understand things. It seems that clarity became my idol. I find it so uncomfortable every time I do things that I don’t really understand at all.

This is the reason why the story of Cornelius is a great reminder for me to follow God’s word no matter what. Cornelius wasn’t familiar with who Peter was, but he trusted the One who gave him the instructions. He didn’t exactly know what would happen next, but he believed with all his heart that God would guide him.

May we have the same heart as him. A heart that’s always willing to obey God despite the uncertainties. A heart that’s willing to trust in God’s word. This may not be easy, but with the help of the Holy Spirit, He would give us the grace that we need.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for giving us the chance to receive your instructions. Please give us a humble heart that’s willing to obey your instructions. We pray for the kind of faith that’s willing to follow your will. And when fears try to consume our thoughts, we pray for the grace to overcome this battle. May your power reign and your Kingdom prevail. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, amen.
