His Word

Day 398 – Luke 6:3-5

Jesus answered them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God, and taking the consecrated bread, he ate what is lawful only for priests to eat. And he also gave some to his companions.” Then Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

Luke 6:3-5, NIV

The Pharisees in Jesus’ time only focus on the rules and traditions and not on the things that matter most. They believed that His disciples violated their self-made rules. They reacted to how they behaved because they thought they were not respecting the Sabbath day. The Pharisees don’t have a clue about who Jesus is. And when He heard their judgments, Jesus reminded them about what David did. You see, God is after of mercy rather than sacrifices. He focuses on our needs rather than our traditions and rules. Sometimes, we are too occupied with fulfilling our own rules that we no longer consider those who are sick and broken.

I pray that we will never forget that Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath, so we must set out eyes on Him and not on the rules that humans created.
