His Word

He Is A God Who Would Stop For ‘The One’

So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of the Kandake (which means “queen of the Ethiopians”). This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the Book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”

Acts 8:27-29, NIV

Philip was preaching God’s word to so many people, and suddenly, God instructed him to purposely meet one person. The Holy Spirit led him to a desert road, and there, he saw an Ethiopian eunuch reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. That’s when he started to share Jesus with him.

It was evident that this important official was already a believer of God since he went to Jerusalem to intentionally worship Him. Perhaps his heart was seeking more of his savior. And here comes God directing Philip to answer the cry of this one man.

God called Philip to share His word with a crowd, then suddenly instructed him to help one person. This simply reflects the kind of God we believe in. He is a God who would stop for “the one.”  He is the kind of Father who would ask his servants to serve that one person who needed His love.

Sometimes, we are too caught up in what we are doing that we forget to stop for that one person that God asked us to serve and love. This is a very powerful reminder for us to follow His voice. We shouldn’t just focus on serving the crowd. Instead, we need to learn to pause and stop for that one person in front of us.

Meanwhile, we are also reminded that God knew what our hearts were longing for, just like how He knew the needs of the Ethiopian Eunuch. And He will send someone like Philip to help us know His love even more. Let’s continue to seek Him and trust in His ways. One day, we will meet the servant He will send to lead us back to Him. And if God happens to convict you to share His love and hope, then perhaps He is inviting you to be the ‘Philip’ of that person.

Prayer: Father God, thank you so much for your great love. Thank you for sending someone to help us. And us we begin to grow our faith, we pray that you will give us a heart like Philip that’s willing to stop for that one person that you wanted us to serve. We pray that you will give us the strength to love and care for others. This we ask, in Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
