We Need To Learn How To Deal With Gossips

The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.

Proverbs 26:22, NIV

Sometimes, people find satisfaction in spreading news that could potentially hurt others. They somehow label it as satisfying and entertaining. This is a sad truth that many of us experienced. We will meet someone who likes to talk about other people’s mistakes or weaknesses. And maybe, they think that it was normal and not really a big deal, but let’s wait until they also experience the same thing. Only then will they realize how painful it is.

According to the book of Proverbs, the words of gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts. They become part of a person. They are like consuming lies that elevate themselves and put others down. It’s dangerous because it kills someone’s confidence. This is the reason why we need to become aware of ourselves.

We need to learn how to deal with gossip. If, by chance, we hear negative news about other people, we always have the choice to spread it or not. Let’s try to understand other people and choose to love them. Let’s not put other people down. Remember that they are children of God. What you do to them, you also do it to God. It’s not pleasing in His eyes to see His children throwing negative words against each other. It contradicts His nature as a loving and good Father.

When someone spreads gossip, it’s like they are also claiming that they are better than other people. They highlight their weaknesses or lapses and fail to assess their own lives. It seems like they know better than anyone else. And this is not really the right thing to do. So, let’s come to God and ask Him to change us from the inside out.

Prayer: Father God, thank you so much for giving us the chance to learn more about your love. Please teach us how to love and respect other people. Give us a heart that’s willing to understand them. Pour out your Spirit in our lives that we may learn to control ourselves. We pray for the grace to overcome this bad habit. Remind us Lord to do what is right. This we ask and pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.
