His Word

God Gave All Of Us The Chance To Connect With Him Through The Holy Spirit

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles.

Acts 10:44-45, NIV

Peter visited the house of Cornelius, a centurion who lived in Caesarea. He was surrounded by Cornelius’ relatives when he started preaching about Jesus. These group of people were known to be Gentiles and Jews tend to treat them as strangers. But something wonderful happened the moment Peter wholeheartedly welcomed these people and shared Jesus to them. Suddenly, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard his message.

This was a rare moment before. The early Christians considered the Gentiles unclean. But here comes the Holy Spirit moving in the midst. This means that this particular event simply opened the minds of Peter and the other circumcised believers. In fact, some of them were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.

This means that God gave all of us the chance to connect with Him through the Holy Spirit. This was the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. This was the same Spirit that healed people from sickness and set the captives free. Jesus freely gave Him to us. It doesn’t matter if we are Jews or Gentiles. As long as we follow and believe in Jesus, we are also given the opportunity to experience more of Him through the Holy Spirit.

Our Christian walk would be meaningless without His presence. The Holy Spirit is the One who can lead us back to God. He is everything. That’s why, the moment God allowed His Spirit to manifest to the Gentiles, it means hope for us. It somehow gives us the courage to keep seeking Him because we can trust the His Spirit will always be there to move, support and guide us.

Prayer: Father God, thank you so much for the chance to experience your presence through the Holy Spirit. We pray that you will open our hearts that we may receive more of you in our lives. Teach us how to welcome the Holy Spirit and allow Him to move. Remind us to abide in your ways and give us a humble heart to always depend in your love. This we ask and pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.
